Evening Calm to Rest
The Essential Mind-Body Balancer for Step 5 is CALM to REST. We have arrived at Step 5 of 5 in our optimum Ayurvedic routine for the completed day - that is now transitioning to night. You have properly met your replenishment needs from this mid-afternoon and now it's time to start your Evening by dropping the heaviness of the hectic day - resonate a Lightness of Being to calm the household and expand a restful environment. Aroma of Valerian for the Mind
For the aromatherapy to calm the mind, we use Valerian as our Ayurvedic aroma for Calm to Rest. Valerian has been proven effective for quieting an overactive mind, much like meditation, for thousands of years. It's key to improving the quality of your sleep at bedtime by the relief of stress related conditions, such as tension headaches, heart palpitations, and chaotic-thought streams, so now your path to sleep is clear.
Touch of Magnesium for the Body
For the touch-therapy to nourish the body, we use Magnesium as our primary Essential-Mineral rub - supported by the Ayurvedic herbs of Brahmi, Lavender, and St. John's Wort - for their calming effects. I chose Magnesium as the primary touch ingredient based on my personal battle and eventual success over insomnia. During times of stress, our Magnesium levels drop and we feel anxious - by simply replenishing our levels of this essential mineral, we can return to a restful state conducive to reaching deep levels of sleep.

But wait! - Before you and Time go get married, your attainment of that final 0:90 seconds - for your daily total of 7 1/2 minutes - of Self Love for your Evening - Calm to Rest ritual - is your most challenging. You must turn off the day within you first. Let it go. I promise there'll be a new one waiting for you, tomorrow - then turn off the day around you - when you're not looking at a computer screen to check an email or taking a work call or watching the volatile evening news - I promise that you'll find that extra 0:90 seconds for you and much more time for your family's interactive needs.

Love of Self is our vital ingredient to create a Mind-Body environment for CALM to REST because it allows you to let of the day's events and demands. The optimal daily routine in Ayurveda guides toward quiet, nurturing activities after sunset and sleep by 10:30 pm. Our Step-5 Affirmation prepares us for this letting go, "Calm to rest allows the weight of my day to wait; for it will feel lighter when I am well-rested." Saying this affirmation opens your gateway night's sleep and fuels your next morning's rejuvenation.
Dropping Your Day's Baggage for Lightness of Being
Let's Complete our first Sun-Moon Cycle along our Empowered Path of Ayurveda as we affirm OUR COMMITMENT to mind-body harmony, through active application, that makes Empowered Wellness all our Destinies. Place a quarter-sized dab of Calm to Rest on the inside of your wrist and hold it together lightly with the inside of your other wrist - please notice that Step 5 is a clear gel with a stronger feel and aroma than the four previous steps. Now, Gently repeat after me "Calm to Rest allows the weight of my day to wait - for it will feel lighter when I am well rested".
While silently holding this affirmation in your forethought, begin to circle the inside of your wrists together - observe where you feel the tingle as your Magnesium levels increase around your body by direct absorption - quite often, you can taste the salt on the tip of your tongue as your supply and relative feeling of calm is being replenished - Next, open your wrist like a book to deeply inhale the powerful aroma of Valerian - yes, it is strong and so is its benefit - your overactive mind and heart beat begin to steady and any tension headache starts to subside. These benefits are similar to the early rewards of meditation which is the foundation of Empowered-ME Program as you increase your practice of our Self-Love System. Observe where you feel the tingle as your Magnesium levels increase around your body by direct absorption - quite often, you can taste the salt on the tip of your tongue as your levels and relative feeling of calm are being replenished - Next, feel the supporting sequence of Brahmi to calm an agitated mind and reduce anxiety, then Lavender to overactive nerves and induce relaxation, and then St. John’s Wort to improve quality and length of sleep.
With continued focus on the flow of your breath, follow my self-massage process - called Abhyanga in the Sanskrit language of Ayurveda - pivot the wrists so your hands gently stroke your opposite forearm - then pull your hands together - with the lotion on both hands and fingers - and move both up to massage your neck and behind your ears - enjoying the stimulation from your own skin's pharmacy - as you also nourish your tissues by touch - until the Calm to Rest formula absorbs - again, please note that this is a gel instead of a lotion so it will take longer to absorb and, with the active thickness of both Valerian and Magnesium, you might enjoy the cleansing effects of a shower about 30 minutes afterward.
